                           Sharpen the AXE.
                                                                              Hyderabad moments for tomorrow’s Memories . ..

Bhagya nagar / Hyderabad Diaries, Though the visit to the city of pearls was short but the diary for long and long time memory.

The visit to the city of pearls to run the distinguished reputed Hyderabad marathon, unlike previous long travel, spent only 2 days and carried lots and lots of memories fun food laughter and obviously good run. One of my friend buddy Dev had booked the travel plan in short duration of time, itinerary included Friday night departure - Saturday bib collection -  visit to old city -  race and return.

Never knew how the trip ended so soon and back on the exercise floor for the regular Physiotherapy, rehab and exercises. That’s what I do, that’s my job!

Friday night, train departure from Yeshwantpur, Bengaluru railway station at 11:30 PM small group gathered from odu running club, SPARTAN Studio, train departure was on time and arrived at Kachigudaf  railway station next day afternoon at 12:00 PM, pre booked cab to service apartment, got quick freshen up and plan chart is ready-  all shall visit Expo for a marathon BIB collection and commute by metro, from there visiting Charminar famous monument and aim for chai!!

45 minutes metro ride to Sports Complex and bib collected, many photos been clicked met couple of friends runners and relished Hyderabad biryani and at 4:00 pm booked the cab to Charminar visited Laad bazaar, NAMRA cafe bakery biscuit bun maska and many teas. Mind was keep alarming about the race and it’s 7:00pm time to head back to the room and rest.

Reached service apartment late at 8:30 PM. Decided to sleep early and had no appetite.

Might have hit the bed at 10 since a new place, a new mattresses, sleeping early pre-marathon night, no way catching up sleep early, read about the training log and forced to sleep.

Picked up from where I had left :

Race training workout :

There is not much to talk about a training since there were so many injuries, rehabilitation and rest, writing about the same made me feel sick and monotonous. This time decided to write less about injuries and training.

Full-fledged training started just a month before the Hyderabad Marathon and I had good four weeks and jotted down all the missed workouts from the time of ankle twist in the stadium on July 1st. There was total eight weeks actual workout for Hyderabad that’s eight speed workout and eight long runs and I have only four weeks, hence started my own plans for the marathon and in between my coach was asking about my recuperation and prognosis which had boosted my morale.

Reporting about the health progress with the Coch, discussed the Hyderabad marathon and plan of actions. Did good homework for couple of days and noted all the speed workouts where I had stopped from July 1 week hence I named it “picked up from where I had left”

And in short duration of four weeks, Taylor made training plan designed from what I have missed from the last five weeks.

. …

I was, I am rock solid motivated and the greatest challenge was changing my routine 11:45 sleep, 6:45 wakeup, 7:30 son school, sharp 7:45 in hmt ground and finish the training at 10:00 and 11am at workstation.

Workout details in garmin and strava.

Restarted trying from July 30 with the easy run 12, 16k. Considering no pain and good prognosis did speed check tempo run of 5k on 9th of August. Sooooper charged and executed all missed out important workout one by one

My first and best interval was pyramid workout which was scheduled on July 1st Where I twisted my ankle and did not have a tendon injuries but the doctor's advice was Micro fractures in the tibial malleolus and complete rest for 4 weeks.

Canceled the Bengaluru 10 K challenge But I had a eye on Hyderabad marathon.

. …training continues. ..

Sharpen the Axe:

During childhood I remember 2 stories of wood chopper one was truthful wood chopper and another one was sharpening the Axe or seasoning the axe, so absolute rest good sleep eat good, SnC the non involved joints, pain management and focused rehab protocols. I knew and it worked, because that’s what my job is day in and day out. Hyderabad half marathon at 91 minutes with the 4 weeks off beyond the Best training. 4 speed workout - too good progressive long run - one up hill repeat this is how I sharpened my Axe for 4 good weeks before I started training for half marathon.

5th position among the age category of 1700 athletes.

Good non weight bearing stretches - non weight bearing strengthening -  Lot of ice application for 20 minutes thrice a day - good 20 minutes breathing exercise and meditation to control the urge of running.

I was pretty sure about my legs shall be ready for action from the first day of interval training and proved it, hence the name “Sharpen the Axe

. …. Continued training . …

Best speed interval training included Pyramid workout, miles repeats, tempo run, best part is speedster Suresh pulled me into one of the paced long run on 19August,

Obviously I couldn’t keep up the pace he was flying but made me feel positive, Iam still in the team. This helped me to set the pace for Hyderabad half marathon @ 4:15-4:20 pace.

Race day :

Slept good, had a sound sleep for about 4 and half hours and never forgot to study the training log and 100 percentage confidence of running the half marathon distance at the pace of 415 to 4:20 pace. Earlier blogs I had mentioned about “body achieves what mind believes” and I plan my pace and I execute it flawlessly.

Overall finish time, the performance and the caliber to run all are extremely satisfactory but I was losing the focus on attention every  uphill - downhill and the straight road.

Strange feel was, I felt shorter uphills and longer downhill other than this nothing special to talk about the run and the race

I can do sub 3 in this course in due time.

Good 3 hours for the baggage carrying bus to arrive and very chaotic situations.  Organisers/ champions hope you understand the importance of change of clothes and hypothermia.

Clicked lot of photo for the memories, celebrated and one of our speedster Farheen got the podium,  later learnt many of my training buddies got podium in respective ages – Tilak, Suresh, Suneel, Manju, Simpta, Vasuda, Dev.. feels so proud to train along.

Good hot shower and power nap helped to release the physical stress and all voted for biryani, relished good Hyderabadi biryani, vacated the property heading towards the railway station.

Did not forget to get chilled in headquarters which was on the way.

Sri Gurubyonamaha.

🙏
